Mortal Shell Set To Receive New DLC Called “The Virtuous Cycle”

By Keith MitchellJune 11, 2021
Mortal Shell DLC - The Virtuous Cycle

There’s more here than meets the eye.

During IGN’s Summer of Gaming, the developers behind the indie Dark Souls-ish title, Mortal Shell, has announced some good news. After months of waiting, they have finally confirmed that a new DLC for Mortal Shells is being worked on. Which is fantastic news for me as I enjoyed the hell out of Mortal Shell.

This new DLC is called Mortal Shell The Virtuous Cycle, and that’s all we know. The teaser video isn’t very long, clocking in at 45 seconds. And after it closes, all we’re left with is this DLC “Is Coming Soon.” However, those who’ve played the game will quickly notice something new in this teaser.

That weapon wielded by the player character is new and looks to be a trick weapon. When we first see this weapon, it resembles a polearm. Suddenly an ax blade springs from the weapon. With a few quick moves, this weapon then transforms into a sword, allowing the player to dual wield the weapon. Finally, it is transformed back into an ax. Exciting stuff, for sure.

That shell that’s being shown off is also new. While this shell looks similar to Tiel, the Acolyt, and Solomon, The Scholar, there are a few key differences. First, this shell has a belt and is carrying several items, including a flask on it. Second, the faceplate looks different with a slightly extended nose/beak, with multiple holes surrounding the faceplate. Third, there’s some chainmail covering part of the top and the rear of the helmet as well. Lastly, there’s a design on the chest piece that isn’t on any of the existing shells in Mortal Shell.

Lastly, the poor chaps who are being mowed down don’t look familiar either. They’re adorned in some black armor, and they’re humans. I don’t recall and humans as enemies in the base Mortal Shell game.

So while Cold Symmetry didn’t say anything directly, the teaser has spoken for its self. Again, there’s no idea when this DLC will be released. When it does, it will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store).
