New Performance Modes Added To Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart

We’re less than a week away from the release of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and it’s been a long time coming. Yet, there was a bit of nonsense regarding the frame rate and resolution – something about it being in 4K but only running at 30 frames per second. Obviously, this didn’t sit well with Insomniac Games, and they decided to speak up about the matter.

Actually, there did more than speak up; they put up. In a recent tweet, Insaomic stated that players would have access to both a Performance and Performance Mode with Ray Tracing enabled once the game is released. All they’ll need to do is download an update – which is currently live for anyone who pre-ordered the game. And should you one be the lucky folks who have early access to the title, you can download this update for the game now.

Players who update #RatchetPS5 on launch day gain access to our Performance & Performance RT Modes.

Yes, this is similar to what the studio did with Spider-Man Miles Morales for the PlayStation 5. There are three ways to play the game; 4K at 30 frames per second with all the bells and whistles. A Ray Tracing mode with a variable frame rate that hovers between 30 to 60 frames per second(lower resolution) and 60 frames per second with Ray Tracing and a much lower resolution. There’s a lot more going on here, and the game features a dynamic resolution, so using conventional resolution numbers doesn’t apply here. And frankly, it shouldn’t matter – the game looks good no matter how you look at it.

This is fantastic news, and now everyone has a choice on how they’ll play the game. I’m already torn, but I’ll definitely check out all the modes. Sure, I’m a sucker for 60 frames per second, but seeing a game like this running at4K and all the effects being shown – I could care less if it is just 30 fps. I can’t wait for June 11th to get here. Heck, I may need to take a few days off of work to enjoy this masterpiece.

Just look at this! It looks so damned good! This video right here is the game at 60fps gameplay with ray-tracing enabled. This looks to be THE reason to have a PlayStation 5.
