Masahiro Sakurai Reaffirms Statement About Super Smash Bros Ultimate DLC

By Todd BlackMay 28, 2021
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Pass Volume 2

There are a LOT of rumors going on right now about Super Smash Bros Ultimate (more than should be allowed, just saying) concerning the final two DLC characters for the game. There are all sorts of predictions about who might show up in the game’s final slots, but many are hoping that this isn’t really the end.

Well, director Masahiro Sakurai says otherwise. Because in his latest Famitsu column, it’s been reconfirmed that they are the final characters and the game will be done “quite soon”.

Sakurai says that while we wait, he can say definitively there are only two fighters remaining. They will both be released this year. Sakurai ends by saying that he will not be quitting game-related work after development wraps up, and will continue to work hard to the finish. pic.twitter.com/N9m7Kl3SO0

And as that second half of the tweet shows, no, Sakurai is NOT retiring from game development. So that’s good news.

More than likely, we’re going to get the final DLC characters trailers for Super Smash Bros Ultimate at E3 2021 in a few weeks. As for who might show up and when…that’s up to Nintendo and Sakurai because they won’t release it until the characters are 100% ready.
