First Trailer for ‘Last Night in Soho’ Teases Out Time-Traveling Terror

Anya Taylor-Joy

Doesn’t it sound fun to go back in time? Yes, but also kind of terrifying when you think about it. Picked up and dropped off in a different time seems alluring, but also isolating and creepy. Last Night in Soho, an upcoming film by Edgar Wright, shows off this dark side of time travel with its new trailer:

Aside from a really intriguing premise, the movie promises an absolute all-star cast. Thomasin McKenzie, who we praised in our review of Jojo Rabbit, stars as Eloise, a young fashion designer brought back to 1960s London. There she finds herself in the body of famed singer Sandy, played by Anya Taylor-Joy. Taylor-Joy gave a masterclass of a performance in The Queen’s Gambit, one of my favorite shows of last year. Despite the fun, nostalgic vibes of the premise so far, things take a turn for the paranormal halfway through the trailer.

The supporting cast packs some great talent as well, with Matt Smith from Doctor Who, Diana Rigg from Game of Thrones, Terence Stamp from Superman, and James and Oliver Phelps from every Harry Potter movie. Last Night in Soho marks the last film performance of Rigg, who passed away last year.

Edgar Wright, director of Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver, directs Last Night in Soho, Wright penned the screenplay alongside Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who co-wrote the screenplay for the Oscar-award winning film 1917.

Wright is no stranger to cross-genre films with unique premises, and it seems like Last Night in Soho fits this mold well. Focus Features, which distributes the film in the US, describes it as a psychological thriller. We’ll see what this acclaimed cast and crew deliver up when the film arrives in cinemas on October 22nd of this year.

A big fan of Final Fantasy VII, Uncharted, and Metal Gear Solid, Andrew loves great stories and any and all things horror flavored. He also works in the world of interactive theater, its own kind of gaming. Andrew gets his powers from listening to indie folk music and drinking aloe water.
