Paramount+ Reveals Return of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’, ‘Picard’ and ‘Lower Decks’

By Sara Roncero-MenendezApril 6, 2021

It was truly a bountiful First Contact Day. Trekkies across the Internet were treated to the first looks at the next seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, and Star Trek: Lower Decks.

The first show on deck is Star Trek: Lower Decks. The wacky, PG-13 animated adventures of the maintenance crew are back with a vengeance. You have to love a show that happily makes fun of itself. The second season will premiere on Paramount+ on August 12, 2021.

Next is Star Trek: Discovery, which will have its fourth season out sometime in late 2021. In it, we see Michael Burnham taking on the role as captain of the Discovery. There seems to get yet another anomaly causing havoc that will bring the Federation and non-Federation planets into alliance. Oh, and see those snazzy new uniforms? Looks like more changes are coming.

Finally, the most surprising of all is Star Trek: Picard and the teaser for its second season. We don’t get much in it, with Jean-Luc monologuing about the importance of our decisions and time. But wait, the ending has a big reveal: John de Lancie will be coming back to reprise his role as Q, the all-powerful being who really liked to bug the crew in Next Generation.

Will these shows boldly go where no person has gone before? We’ll have to wait and see.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
