Survival Co-op Shooter Aliens: Fireteam Announced By Cold Iron Studios

Coming this Summer to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

Today, developer Cold Iron Studios has announced that they are working on a co-op 3rd person shooter based in the Aliens universe, called Aliens: Fireteam. Apparently, this game will take place 23 years after the original Alien films. Players will once again assume a Colonial Marine’s role, responding to a distress beacon, only find themselves battling for their lives through overrun facilities, abandoned ruins, and strange alien landscapes. This will be a survival game, in the purest sense. Players will need to work together to survive, and even that may not be enough.

The game will feature co-op for up to three players or alongside AI-controlled teammates. Aliens: Fireteam will include five playable classes (Recon, Doc, Demolition, Technician, Gunner), all of which will feature different gameplay styles and layouts. Customization will play a big role in the game as players will create their own layouts of weapons and other gear.

Expect an expansive arsenal of customizable weapons and mods, character progression, and a card system that will modify how each session is played. The latter sounds are similar to the card system in the upcoming Back 4 Blood game. This card system will allow players to build card decks that will influence how each mission plays out. There will be four campaigns, with 3 missions per, and a story that will connect the campaigns.

Thanks to the provided trailer, it looks like Cold Iron is pulling out all the stops. One of my favorite games in the Alien franchise is Alien: Isolation, which featured a single Xenomorph that was surprisingly capable of not only harassing players but tracking them down in an instant. But in Aliens: Fireteam, the ante is upped, and there swarms of those big-headed creatures that will be breathing down your necks. Familiar Xenomorphs will return, but there will also be new creatures created solely for this game. The iconic weapon sounds from the movies making a return, and I like the idea of the game being presented in the 3rd person perspective.

Hopefully, this will be the game that will finally allow us all to forget the atrocity that was Aliens: Colonial Marines from Gearbox Software. I’m looking forward to this, and if you’re a fan of the series, maybe you should too.

Aliens: Fireteam arrives this Summer 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
