E3 Might Be Canceled This Year, Anime Expo Going Virtual

By Josh PiedraFebruary 28, 2021

Some people have pointed out that the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is listed as being canceled for 2021 in an information packet sent out by the Los Angeles Convention and Tourism Development Board of Commissioners.

This information packet is for a special board meeting that is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 3. While the event does show it being canceled in the packet, it should also be noted that the E3 staff are looking into working with production teams in order to broadcast the event at the L.A. Live area at the L.A. Convention Center. E3 is also working on venue licenses for 2022 and 2023.

So, while the physical event is most likely as dead a Julius Caesar this year, fans can hold onto the hope that a virtual E3 is a possibility.

Speaking of virtual events, the same information packet has listed the 2021 Anime Expo event as being virtual this year as well. Due to the pandemic, Anime Expo went virtual last year in July and it was seen as a pretty decent success. No doubt, lessons were learned and the staff at Anime Expo is willing to give the virtual show another shot.

Like always, Anime Expo is scheduled to be held over the July 4 holiday weekend.
