Sojourn Will Join The Overwatch 2 Roster

By Keith MitchellFebruary 20, 2021
Overwatch 2 - Sojourn-01

During Blizzcon 2021, Blizzard officially announced Sojourn, an Overwatch hero who made an appearance in the Overwatch animated short “Recall.” Many have assumed a character would make her way into Overwatch but has been reserved for the sequel. Sojourn has also undergone a few changes since we last saw her, such as the weapon that at one point looked to be attached to her person.

Overwatch 2 - Sojourn-01

In “Behind the scenes of Overwatch 2”, we got to see a little bit of Sojourn and some words on what sort of character she is.  According to Geoff Goodman, the idea of how Sojourn came to be was based on the current heroes available in the game. While Overwatch has several classes based on popular weapons such as the sniper rifle, rocket launcher, assault rifle, the Overwatch team came up with the idea to add a hero that would weird an iconic weapon; the railgun. Fans of Quake and Unreal Tournament’s instagib modes should immediately be familiar with this weapon type.

Goodman states in the video that Sojourn is all about aim skill. If you a gamer who is used to lining up shots in first-person shooters, and are all about precision shots, then Sojourn would be a character that appeals to you. And if not, you might be able to get away with the railguns’ semi-automatic fire mode.

For me, it sounds like I may have found my new hero (I still love you, Pharah!), as I grew up playing games that were heavily dependant on aim skill. There was nothing better than lining up a shot in the middle of the action. That said, I can’t wait to give Sojourn a try; hopefully, by then, I haven’t lost my aiming skills.

Head to the 11:00 minute mark to see Sojourn in action.

Currently, there’s no ETA on when Overwatch 2 will be released. However, listening to Blizzard sounds like the plans have changed, and instead of being an incremental update, Overwatch 2 has turned into a full-blown sequel. I wouldn’t be surprised if Overwatch 2 doesn’t see a release date until 2022.
