Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury Doing Very Well In The UK

By Todd BlackFebruary 15, 2021
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Bowser's Fury

One of the very curious trends about the Nintendo Switch as a whole is that the system has been porting a LOT of titles from the previous system in the Wii U and reselling them with previously purchasable DLC or with slightly more content than before in order to give it a “Fresh” feel and make it appealable to both new and old gamers. And the surprise is that it works very well. The sales of these ports at times have been astronomical, and now it seems that the latest port, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is in line to do that again.

The game has only been out a little while but in the UK, it’s already making a big dent as a Twitter insider noted.

Super Mario 3D World is no.1 in the UK this week (surprise!). Its launch is nearly 3 times bigger than the Wii U original (physical only), although back then the Wii U had only sold 160k units. It’s the 3rd biggest Mario platform launch on the Switch (behind Odyssey & All-Stars)

It should be noted that the original Super Mario 3D World honestly did pretty well on the Wii U, it sold almost 6 million units on the system which was basically a 50% retention rate. If the other regions (Japan and the US) hold up these rises in sales numbers, not only could Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury be a million-seller, it could be a top-selling title for the Switch very soon. We’ll just have to wait and see!
