Nintendo Switch Is Very Close To 80 Million In Sales

By Todd BlackFebruary 1, 2021
Best Nintendo Switch Docks 2019 - Official Nintendo Dock

When it comes to the Nintendo Switch, it’s not a matter of whether it’s going to sell at this point. Rather, it’s about how MUCH it’s going to sell every single quarter. Nintendo has released their Q3 2020 sales numbers and they were most impressive.

As of December 31st, 2020, the Nintendo Switch has sold 79.87 million units. Which, if you guess on how much January sales in 2021 will bring in, means the Switch has essentially sold over 80 million units in total. Which is very impressive considering that it hasn’t even been on the market yet for four full years (it released in March 2017) and basically means it’s sold over 20 million a year.

Another important thing to note is that the Switch has now officially passed lifetime sales of the Nintendo 3DS, which had over 75 million units in its very long lifetime. As of now, the only hardware to sell better than the Switch is the Game Boy Advance (81 million units), the Nintendo Wii (101 million), the Game Boy (118 million) and the Nintendo DS (154 million).

All in all, an impressive quarter for Nintendo and the Switch, and things are only going to get better for them overall as 2021 is set to have big 1st and 3rd party games coming out like New Pokemon Snap, Monster Hunter Rise, Bravely Default 2, and more.
