Housemarque’s Returnal Delayed Until April 2021

By Keith MitchellJanuary 28, 2021
Returnal Housemarque PS5

Housemarque has announced that its upcoming third-person shooter that takes cues from ‘Groundhog Day’ has been delayed until April 30th, 2021. The title was originally scheduled to be released on March 19, 2021, now pushed back an additional month.

The company has cited that the company wants to devote more time to the title, squashing all the bugs and making sure it’s as good as it can be before it gets released.

Something I wish more developers/publishers would do for their upcoming titles.

Update: Returnal has a new release date of April 30, 2021. SIE and Housemarque have made the decision to move the release date in order to give the team extra time to continue to polish the game to the level of quality players expect from Housemarque.

What can I say? Delays are beneficial as long as the company takes advantage of it. It’s also a good move on Housemarque’s part since the PS5 adoption rate isn’t where it probably be, for several reasons. Hopefully, by the time the title drops, more gamers will be able to get their hands on the PlayStation 5. Of course, you know my stance already – take as much time as you need. Something about rushed and bad games being bad forever.

Returnal is a third-person title with roguelike elements based in a sci-fi setting. The game will place players into Selene’s role, a pilot who finds herself stranded on an alien planet. To compound things, she finds herself stuck in a time loop. Every day rewinds time, bringing Selene back to life, forcing her to repeat her steps, and hopefully avoiding what originally caused her death.

Returnal is a PlayStation 5 exclusive and will be released on April 30th, 2021. Though, I’m kind of hoping it makes its way to PC at a later date.
