Ubisoft and Massive Working on New Star Wars Title

Following yesterdays’ Lucasfilm Games announcement of the new Indiana Jones game in development, the company has announced that they’ll be working alongside Ubisoft and Massive to create an open-world Star Wars game. Wired first mentioned this, and since then, Ubisoft has also mentioned this via several tweets.

And can I say that the idea of an open-world Star Wars game has been on my mind for the longest of times? While SWJFO gave us a glimpse of a fantastic action game, it was still linear. An open-world game means being able to travel to locations that we’ve only ever seen in the movies or heard name-dropped in games.

There’s currently no specific information regarding the title as of now, Massive and currently in recruitment mode. It’s still early, and I wouldn’t expect to hear anything regarding what we can expect about the game anytime soon. Though I hope that we’ll get some info by the time E3 2021 rolls around.

That said, my mind is already racing as to when this game will take place. Will it take place during the Mandalorian timeline? The original trilogy or the newest movies? Or will this be a completely new timeline altogether?

As for EA, they’re still in the picture. The Star Wars universe is massive  (no pun intended), and Disney has decided that, and there’s plenty there for several studios to tackle.

“EA has been and will continue to be a very strategic and important partner for us now and going forward.” “But we did feel like there’s room for others,” states ” Sean Shoptaw, senior vice president of Global Games and Interactive Experiences at Disney.

The Outerhaven’s Star Wars: Squadrons Review

When I first hearing this news , I thought this meant that EA was out, which would have meant no new or follow-up to either Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order or Star Wars: Squadron, which happens to be two of the better Star Wars titles released in years. So it’s comforting to know that EA will still have access to the IP.

The only question now is, does this mean that development on The Division 2 is going to ramp down? Will the title no longer be supported once this new Star Wars project gets off the ground? This a valid concern, and we’ve reached out to Ubisoft for more information.

I can’t wait to find out more about this new Star Wars title. Are you excited about the news? Let us know in the comments.
