English translation of Ask Iwata releasing in April

By Poch SaldanaJanuary 9, 2021
Satoru Iwata, Masahiro Sakurai

Originally released in Japan, the print compilation of the various interviews the late Nintendo president conducted in his popular Iwata Asks series will be released in English via Viz Media on April 13th, 2021. The hardcover of the book is available to pre-order on Amazon for $22.99

Previously announced for spring of 2021, Ask Iwata: Words of Wisdom from Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s Legendary CEO features his conversations with various Nintendo developers, which can find be found online here, as well as insights on the renowned figure by peers and colleagues. These include Nintendo’s most beloved employee, Shigeru Miyamoto, who opens up about missing his Monday lunches with one of his closest friends wherein he would rattle off all the game ideas in his head and Iwata served as his brainstorming buddy.

Iwata is best known for helming Nintendo during the company’s most financially successful and tumultuous years. He lead the company when they launched some of their most successful products in the DS and the Wii but also endured the years when trust in the company was at its most fragile during the initial years of the 3DS and the disastrous tenure of the Wii U. Iwata was a lifelong fan of video games as an art form and as an industry. His quote from GDC 2005 keynote embodied his earnest love for the medium, “On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer.”

Big fan of games, writing, and writing about games! Two things Poch will always stand by--the Vita was ahead of its time and the world is a better place with a new Rhythm Heaven on the horizon.
