CD Projekt Red hints at upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 DLC Plans

By Keith MitchellJanuary 1, 2021
Cyberpunk 2077 Free DLC Plans

While everyone was getting ready to celebrate the new year, CD Projekt Red silently made it known they had plans to release free DLC for Cyberpunk 2077.

According to a page on the official Cyberpunk 2077 website, there’s a link that once clicked on will display the following message;

Free DLC Starts Hitting Night City Early 2021. Stay Tuned for more info!

Cyberpunk 2077 Free DLC Plans

This isn’t the first time hearing about upcoming DLC plans for the game. When the Cyberpunk 2077 launch trailer was released, several members of the Cyberpunk 2077 community noticed the following hidden message in the trailer;

Our planned expansions will take you even deeper into the world of Cyberpunk 207, offering substantial, story-driven content that’ll give you tough choices to make through impactful narratives that you won’t soon forget.
But before we get there, we’ll first be kicking off our free DLC program in early 2021. Just like with The Witcher 3, expect an assortment of free DLC packs to begin hitting Night City, dropping a bunch of cool stuff that’ll inject even more life into the world of the dark future

Cyberpunk 2077 launch trailer hidden DLC message

While the company hasn’t stated what this DLC would be about, judging from their previous free DLC releases from The Witcher series, we can make a few assumptions. Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t have a new game plus mode, similar to how The Witcher 3 didn’t have one either. It wasn’t until a free DLC added the new game plus mode, among other additions. Two paid expansions then followed these up; Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

That said, it’s nice to see that CD Projekt Red still has plans for post-Cyberpunk 2077, considering everything that’s happened thus far. However, on the other hand, as someone who wants to see the game succeed, I feel the company needs to focus its efforts on releasing those two major updates that are supposed to “fix” the game.

The updates I’m referring to are supposed to bring the performance and correct any issues. According to CD Projekt Red, these updates will be massive, with the first one being released this month, January 2021. Followed up by another update in February 2021. These are in addition to the smaller hotfixes that were released already. There’s also a class-action lawsuit that has been launched due to complaints from investors who feel that CD Projekt Red misled them. With all these things currently being juggled, one has to wonder if the DLC is something that CD Projekt Red needs to be worried about.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia, while the next-gen versions for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are still in development.
