Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Film Breaks Box Office Record

By Josh PiedraDecember 28, 2020

It is no secret that Demon Slayer is a highly popular franchise. I mean, after all, you people voted for it as the #1 anime of the DECADE (ignoring amazing gems like Steins;Gate...) over at Funimation; however, it is highly apparent that the series’ success is no joke.

It was reported today that Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has earned 32.47 billion yen at the box office which translates to, roughly, $313 million. This means that the movie has earned more money than Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name as well as Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away. What this means is that Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has become the highest-grossing film in Japan’s history.

Go ahead and re-read that. Not the highest-grossing ANIME film… but the highest-grossing FILM of all-time. This movie has even surpassed Hollywood blockbusters, such as the Harry Potter series!

What is even more impressive is that this feat only took 45 days to achieve its place as the second-highest-grossing movie of all-time, surpassing Titanic. What’s even more impressive is that it accomplished all of this during the worst global pandemic in nearly 100 years.

Welcome to the true power of Demon Slayer, folks!
