Sephiroth Gameplay Shown In Latest “Mr. Sakurai Presents” Video

By Todd BlackDecember 17, 2020

Fans were blown away at The Game Awards last Thursday when Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII was revealed to be the next playable character. But the next question was that of, “How would the character play?” Well, Mr. Sakurai himself did another one of his gameplay breakdown videos to showcase how the One-Winged Angel would be on the Super Smash Bros Ultimate battlefield!

As you would expect, Sephiroth is a major sword-user, and Sakurai went into incredible detail not just with his sword attacks, but where to hit the fighters with them for maximum damage. He’s much more of a precision swordfighter like Marth versus a bruiser like Ike or Link.

In regards to special attacks he has three different version of Flare, then he has Shadow Flare which does delayed damage to users, a special Counter-esque move in Scintilla, a charged up Octoslash, and then, of course, his Final Smash goes Supernova on foes that not only damages them, but invokes Final Fantasy VII by giving them status effects!

In terms of new stages we enter the Northern Cave where the ending of FFVII plays out over time. As for tracks, there are 9 new tracks added to the game including One-Wing Angel, Aeriths Theme, and more!

Speaking of Aerith, her, Tifa, Barrett, Chocobo and Geno from Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars are coming to the game as Mii Fighter Costumes!

Oh, and if you play Super Smash Bros Ultimate before the 22nd there’s a special “Challenge” waiting for you…

Last, but not least, the win screen for Sephiroth will feature his icon “fire” scene, because what else was there to use?

So watch the full video below to learn how you can play Sephiroth, and be ready when he joins the game on December 22nd!
