Destiny 2’s next-gen update is here, Bungie reaffirms Destiny 2 Crossplay

Some big news from the Bungie camp today, as the next-gen update for Destiny is now live. If you were one of the few able to snag a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, you could now get access to a better visual fidelity experience in Destiny 2.

Here’s how it shapes up:

PlayStation 5: 4K, 60FPS, 120hz Crucible Support, FOV Slider, Faster Loading Times, Cross-gen play with PlayStation 4, Free Update (if you own Destiny 2 already).
Xbox Series X: 4K, 60FPS, FOV Slider, 120hz Crucible Support, Faster Loading Times, Cross-gen play with Xbox One, Free Update (if you own Destiny 2 already).
Xbox Series S: 1080p, 60FPS, FOV Slider, Faster Loading Times, Cross-gen play with Xbox One, Free Update (if you own Destiny 2 already).

As you can see, both the PS5 and Xbox Series X gain 4K and 60 Frames Per Second support, while the Xbox Series S is stuck at 1080p and 60 Frames Per Second. Outside of that, everyone gets a free update and cross-gen play. +

Then there’s Cross-play!

While it’s definitely a bit too early to talk about Crossplay in Destiny 2, Bungie continues to reaffirm that this is one of their goals for the game. In today’s next-gen update news, the company offered up a few tidbits on Destiny 2, including more info on Transmog, DDOS protection, the upcoming Vault of Glass raid, several new strikes other pieces of info.

But right smack in the middle of all this mentioned that Crossplay would be heading to Destiny 2 in 2021.

Destiny 2 Crossplay is coming

Now, we had already known that Bungie really wants to get Crossplay in the game, as it would expand the existing userbase. Truly allowing players to play on whatever platform they want, while friends and families also do the same. It’s great to see that the team is focusing on this, and I can’t wait for one.

That said, we still don’t have an ETA, but it is coming, and I’m excited about that.

Destiny 2’s latest expansion, Beyond Light, was released a few weeks ago for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Today, the next-gen update was released for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
