Co-Creator of ‘Scooby-Doo’, Ken Spears, Dies at 82

Sadly, Ken Spears, the co-creator of one of my favorite cartoons as a child, ‘Scooby-Doo’, has passed away. His death occurred on Friday, November 6th, 2020, and he was 82-years old.

According to Ken Spears’s son, Kevin Spears, his father passed away due to Lewy Body Dementia complications.

“Ken will forever be remembered for his wit, his story-telling, his loyalty to family, and his strong work ethic,” Kevin Spears says while remembering his father. “Ken has not only made a lasting impression on his family, but he has touched the lives of many as co-creator of ‘Scooby-Doo.’ Ken has been a role model for us throughout his life, and he will continue to live on in our hearts.”

I can attest to this, as I enjoyed watching not just ‘Scooby-Doo’, but also other co-creations from Ken Spears. And while many recall the sleuth sniffing hound, there were others such as ‘Jabberjaw’, ‘Captain Caveman’, and who can forget ‘Dynomutt – Dog Wonder’.

Spears is survived by his two sons, Kevin and Chris; their wives, along with five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Rest in Peace, Ken. You helped make this world enjoyable for many a child, teenagers, and adults.
