Blizzard Announces Hearthstone: Madness at the Darkmoon Faire

By Josh PiedraOctober 22, 2020

It is that time of the year (again) where Blizzard is getting set to launch a brand-new expansion and today, they announced just that! Typically, an expansion is released in April, August, and December but this time, Madness at the Darkmoon Faire is going to be releasing on November 17!

This means that instead of the normal four months to play with a full set of Standard cards, we get an extra month to do so before the 2019 sets rotate out in April 2021.

As with past expansions, Madness at the Darkmoon Faire will be adding 135 brand-new cards to the game along with a new keyword: Corrupt. Corrupt is pretty simple to understand. If a card with Corrupt is in your hand, simply play any other card with a mana cost higher than the card with Corrupt. This will transform the card into its Corrupted form and you can then play it whenever you feel like. You do NOT have to play it on that same turn making it better than the Rogue’s Combo mechanic.

Since the Darkmoon Faire in World of Warcraft is Old Gods-themed, the four Old God cards from Whispers of the Old Gods are getting reprinted with new all-new mechanics! C’Thun, Yogg-Saron, N’Zoth, and Y’Shaarj all have the same mana cost and baseline stats as their Whispers of the Old Gods counterparts but their effects are similar, yet, different. For example, N’Zoth’s battlecry is to Resurrect all friendly minions of each minion type that died this game which means that we may see a menagerie-style deck built around him this time. For Yogg-Saron, if you cast 10 spells this game, spin the wheel of Yogg-Saron. The wheel has 5 outcomes…. one of which has a 5% chance to be landed on. If it lands, Yogg will cast Pyroblast until someone dies! Y’Shaarj adds a copy of every Corrupted card (the upgraded version) to your hand and they all Cost (0) this turn, and C’Thun splits into 4 pieces at the start of game. Draw and play all four to reassemble C’Thun whose Battlecry is deal 30 damage split between all enemies.
