What exactly is the Mortal Shell Twitter Account Teasing Us With?

By Keith MitchellOctober 21, 2020
Mortal Shell - What are they teasing

Earlier today, the official Mortal Shell Twitter account teased an image, with the caption “Soon…”. Being the fan of the game that I am, I asked what this was referring to, only for them to reply with “Soon…”.

Soon can mean many things, like tomorrow, next week, next month, or even next year. Oh, the suspense is already gnawing at me.

Now, this image doesn’t look like anything from the current game. It’s definitely not one of the existing shells in the game. While the armor isn’t very specific, the headpiece is not something I recall seeing during any of the three playthroughs. It also looks like a new weapon in toll as well. To me, it looks like this is a long-handled ax, but the blade end is obscured by all the smoke and likely on purpose.

Needless to state, they’re planning something but I can’t quite put my finger on it. I’d love to speculate that perhaps this is regarding some new DLC for the game. Except, the team had already stated they didn’t have any DLC plans. Or did they?

During an interview with Fextralife, Mortal Shell’s producer, Kiron Ramdewar, stated the team wasn’t actively working on any DLC and had no plans until the game had been shipped.  Since the interview the game released on August 18th, 2020 for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. That’s two months ago and since then plans could have changed since then.

It was also mentioned that the team had several shells and weapons that unfortunately didn’t make it into the game as they were focused on getting the Mortal Shell out the door. What is being teased could quite possibly be both a shell and weapon that’s getting added. Again, this is all speculation on my part.

As for what is being teased, all we can do is wait and see what Cold Symmetry has in store. But I’m really hoping it is some DLC, either in the form of new shells or an expansion.

Mortal Shell is currently available for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Check our review of Mortal Shell for the PC, here.
