‘Borat 2’ Will Debut on Amazon Prime This Month

By Andrew AgressOctober 1, 2020
Sacha Baron Cohen Borat

Without hardly so much as a warning, Borat 2 will arrive on Amazon Prime on October 23rd. That’s right, this entire time Sacha Baron Cohen has been working on a sequel to his 2006 hit comedy film Borat. The film has apparently been kept under wraps up until now, which is surprising considering that filming takes place in public places, with Baron Cohen interviewing various public figures and people under the guise of his character Borat. The only slip-up happened in August, when someone noticed him in a yellow-ish pickup truck filming in Los Angeles. Still, considering the original film grossed over $250 million, you’d think people would have recognized him sooner. Perhaps the quarantine provided some cover? Let’s check out the new trailer.

As we see, Borat has returned to America for the sequel entitled Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Yes, that is the full title. In fact, the title was previously reported as Borat: Gift of Pornographic Monkey to Vice Premiere Mikhael Pence to Make Benefit Recently Diminished Nation of Kazakhstan, so it seems to have been shortened slightly. It’s no coincidence that the film will arrive just before Election Day in the US, as Baron Cohen recently tweeted a teaser under the guise of the Kazakhstan government:

According to Deadline, Borat 2 was actually the first movie made during the COVID shutdown, shot after restrictions on filmmaking were raised. The following day, the crew went out to film. Filming took place in the US and internationally, and like the first movie, Baron Cohen apparently risked his life while filming (not just because of the virus), wearing a bullet proof vest on certain days. Based on the footage in the trailer, we can see that Sacha Baron Cohen actually filmed back in February, when an unidentified Donald Trump imposter interrupted Vice President Mike Pence during a speech.

In less than a month, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan will arrive on Amazon Prime. While films have struggled to find audiences during the pandemic, having to resort to limited theater releases or streaming, we shall soon find out whether the sequel marks another “great success.”

A big fan of Final Fantasy VII, Uncharted, and Metal Gear Solid, Andrew loves great stories and any and all things horror flavored. He also works in the world of interactive theater, its own kind of gaming. Andrew gets his powers from listening to indie folk music and drinking aloe water.
