Mike Morhaime Launches Dreamhaven Game Company

By Josh PiedraSeptember 23, 2020

Mike Morhaime, who is best known as being a co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, announced that he has launched a brand-new game company called Dreamhaven alongside of his wife Amy Morhaime. Along with it, Morhaime established two game studios under the company’s umbrella: Moonshot and Secret Door.

Mike will hold the title of CEO of Dreamhaven while Amy will head up operations for the company. As of now, Mike and his wife are funding this venture themselves and have hired a number of industry veterans to help run their studios. Most of those veterans are former Blizzard Entertainment employees. The company, as of now, has 27 total employees with more looking to be added in the future.

“My wife, Amy, and I were working at Blizzard and left at the end of 2018,” Morhaime said in an interview with GamesBeat. “We didn’t have anything planned. … We’re going to unplug and take a bunch of time off to travel. We actually went to the HomeStory Cup in Germany for their StarCraft II tournament. We took our daughter.”

As for games, Morhaime didn’t announce anything as of yet but he did state that they haven’t zeroed in on a platform just yet. That means everything from PC to console to mobile is on the table for them at the moment. With two studios, they could work on two titles at the same time although that would be pretty ambitious for a start-up.

One thing is for certain though… after spending 27 years at Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Morhaime is not ready to stop making games and with Dreamhaven, he now has that renewed passion to bring forth quality titles once again!
