Sony to ‘explore’ bringing more PlayStation exclusive titles to PC

By Poch SaldanaAugust 30, 2020

In their latest corporate report, Sony briefly mentioned that they may be bringing more of their 1st party titles to PC. Attached is a small snippet from the report.

SIE aims to achieve robust revenue growth by accelerating the virtuous cycle that has been established for the PlayStation Platform. This entails increasing active users and playtime, enhancing network services and reinforcing content IP so that consumers select PlayStation as their platform of choice. Targeted outcomes include growth in active users, stronger retention and a shorter cash conversion cycle, from which expanded cash flow can be expected. We will explore expanding our 1st party titles to the PC platform,
in order to promote further growth in our profitability.

The statement can be found here though not much else is mentioned regarding their plans to bring more titles to PC.

Some previously PlayStation-exclusive titles that were eventually brought to PC include Horizon Zero Dawn, and the trio of Quantric Dream-developed titles in Heavy Rain, Beyond; Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human. It’s worth mentioning that Horizon Zero Dawn, despite being released in 2017 ended up being in Steam’s Top 5 games prior to its PC release and has only recently be dethroned.

Sony has not made any specific statements as to which games they’re willing to bring over to PC or whether these would include PS5 exclusives as well but it is a reassuring thought that some PlayStation classics might be able to reach an even broader audience. And while Sony has stated that they do want to bring more games from the PlayStation brand over to the PC, this doesn’t devalue the PlayStation brand whatsoever. By adding more PlayStation games to the PC, Sony effectivity increases the exposure of their brands to the PC gaming audience, who could eventually pick up a PlayStation if they don’t already have one.

We’ll just have to wait to see how this all pans out, but either way, this is a smart move by Sony and can only seek to bring more gamers in the PlayStation fold.

Big fan of games, writing, and writing about games! Two things Poch will always stand by--the Vita was ahead of its time and the world is a better place with a new Rhythm Heaven on the horizon.
