Sega to bring more ports to PC thanks to unexpectedly higher sales

By Keith MitchellAugust 19, 2020

Who knew that bringing ports, optimized and requested ports I might at, would do well on the PC? Not Sega, who recently announced that the company will “aggressively” start porting games from its catalog over to the PC via Steam.

During an investor Q&A session, Sega revealed that its most recent ported title, Person 4: Golden, a title that was held hostage on the now-dead PS Vita, sold quite well on the PC. Sales of the title were “significantly higher than expected”, which goes to show that Sega themselves didn’t expect the game to do as well as it did. Surprise, Sega! That’s what happens when you bring a game that was held hostage on a dead platform to other platforms.

Looks like Sega is about to bring the fight to PC

It wasn’t just Persona 4: Golden that sold well either. Before that, Sega had released both Bayonetta and Vanquish to the PC back in 2017, While more recently, had finally made Phantasy Star Online 2 available on both the Xbox One and PC (Windows /Steam). Several Yakuza titles; Yakuza Zero, Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2, also available for PC, with Yakuza: Like a Dragon also releasing on PC.  Lastly, not forgetting the amazing Streets of Rage 4 release, and the upcoming return of Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX.

Needless to say, this is great news for gamers, specifically PC gamers. Sega has a vast and rich back catalog of games that we haven’t seen in a very long title. Now that the company is looking to reach into that bag of titles and port them to not just the PC, but all platforms, this is good news for everyone.

As a long time fan of Sega, I’m excited about this news as I have a list a mile long of titles they could bring over. Starting with all the Virtua Fighter, Virtual On, Daytona USA, and Shining series (Force/ In the Darkness), just to name a few.

What about you? Does this news instill any confidence in Sega’s new focus on PC gaming? Let us know in the comments.
