EA Play subscription service heads to Steam on August 31st

We speculated a while back that EA was looking to bring its subscription service, now dubbed EA play, Steam. Now EA has confirmed what we expected, that EA Play will be available on Steam as of August 31st, 2020. This was announced via EA’s blog earlier today.

In addition, on August 31st, EA Play will launch on its fourth platform, the most in the industry, with Steam for PC, and players can look for more exciting news on EA Play soon.

The pricing structure will be the same on Steam as it is on Origin; EA Play will cost $4.99 monthly, while EA Play Pro (formerly Origin Premier ) will cost $14.99 monthly or $99.99 annually. All the same perks will apply, such as the ability to play new EA games before everyone else and up to 10 hours, and a %10 discount if you purchase the full game.

I can’t say I’m surprised as the writing was already on the wall when EA announced they were bringing back its titles to Steam back in 2019. While EA titles were previously on Steam, EA pulled them once the company had its own online storefront and distribution service, Origin.  Now that EA Play is heading to Steam, you have to wonder what does this mean for Origin. Will it continue to exist or will EA pull the plug on it. And should it be the latter, what does that mean for the titles we’ve already purchased on Origin, let along our game saves?

We’ll be watching this situation over the next few months, that’s for sure.
