The Final Season of ‘Supernatural’ Resumes This October

By Sara Roncero-MenendezAugust 18, 2020

COVID-19 has kept a lot of shows from finishing out their seasons, but it hit Supernatural the hardest. The CW show is on its very last season, but had to stop production due to the viral outbreak. Now, the show has announced that it will be back, starting October 8, with its final seven episodes.

The final episode, Supernatural: The Long Road Home, will air on November 19th, and will be an hour-long farewell to the series for all fans.

For fans curious as to whether the pandemic changed anything about the route of the show, it has. During a video by actor Misha Collins, which brought together co-stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, the topic was brought up. “Eventually, once it all comes out, we can probably share what those adjustments were,” said Ackles. Still, he remained optimistic. “We’ve had to accommodate a pandemic. It’s unfortunate, but I still think it’s going to hit a home run.”

These changes are likely more about social distancing and crowd control than budget limitations, but a smaller finale doesn’t mean worse, especially for a show as intimate and smart as Supernatural.

What will the actors do after? Well, Ackles was just announced to be heading to Amazon Prime’s hit series The Boys as a Season 3 character Soldier Boy. He will be reuniting with Eric Kripke, Supernatural‘s creator, so hopefully it’ll be a fruitful partnership. For the rest, we will just have to wait and see. After 15 seasons, they’ve earned a little break, if they want it.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
