Jurassic World: Dominion Teases a Return to an Original Trilogy Location

By Andrew AgressAugust 14, 2020
Jurassic Park: The Lost World

Jurassic World: Dominion, the last film in the Jurassic World trilogy and the sixth film in the Jurassic Park series, seems to have a few references to the original trilogy. Sam Neill, who played Dr. Alan Grant in the original films, recently revealed that he’ll be returning to the series along with Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum for Jurassic World: Dominion, in what will amount to large roles for the original cast. But now, it seems that the cast won’t be the only original returning element to the series. Fan site Jurassic Outpost recently revealed a photo from the set, which suggests a return to an iconic dinosaur island location from the original trilogy.

But wait, wasn’t Isla Nublar, the original home of Jurassic Park, destroyed in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom? Yes, but in the words of Dr. Ian Malcom, “life finds a way.” In the original 1993 Jurassic Park, the island hosts the dinosaurs created by InGen. But the 1997 sequel reveals Isla Sorna, the “Site B” of InGen’s attempt to create a dinosaur theme park. Even though Isla Nublar saw its volcanic destruction in the last film, Isla Sorna still exists and presumably still has dinosaurs.

It seems that this theory holds water (and dinos), as the picture clearly shows “Site B Isla Sorna” on the side of a crate. Now, this isn’t to say that the film will definitely take place on Isla Sorna. At the very least, the secondary dinosaur island will feature a shout-out. But since Jurassic Park: Dominion will definitely feature dinosaurs, and most of them were wiped out in the last film, it seems highly likely that we’ll see a return to Isla Sorna at some point in the upcoming film.

The island played a prominent role in two of the original sequels, Jurassic Park: The Lost World and Jurassic Park III. With the last two recent Jurassic World movies focusing on Isla Nublar, it sounds like it’s time for Isla Sorna to make a return, and for its dinosaurs to reclaim their spot on the food chain.
