WarnerMedia CEO shoots down the rumor that WB Interactive is for sale

By Keith MitchellAugust 10, 2020

Looks like Batman and crew are staying put as WarnerMedia is hanging on to WB Interactive.

According to a rumor that made the rounds last month, AT&T was looking to offload WB Interactive, which included Netherrealm Studios (Mortal Kombat) and Rocksteady (Batman: Arkham). This started a round of speculation as to which company should acquire WB Interactive. Companies that were reportedly interesting in acquiring the WB Interactive in a possible deal included Microsoft/Xbox and EA.

However, as of a few days ago the CEO of WarnerMedia, Jason Kilar, addressed this rumor via an organization update press release:

Warner Bros. Interactive remains part of the Studios and Networks group, along with our Global Brands and Franchises team including DC led by Pam Lifford, and our Kids, Young Adults and Classics business led by Tom Ascheim, all focused on engaging fans with our brands and franchises through games and other interactive experiences.

It’s not clear as to where the rumor originated from, but as Jason Kilar has made clear, there are no plans for WB Interactive to exchange hands. So for now, both Netherrealm Studios and Rocksteady are staying put. This also means that everyone employed at those studios can keep their jobs, we think.

Speaking of Rocksteady, the developer finally revealed the title that it has been working on for the past few years, Suicide Squad. The team has already announced plans to reveal to provide more information on the game, and a teaser during DC Comics upcoming DC Fan Dome, which takes place on August 22, 2020.

**AT&T is the parent company of WarnerMedia, which acquired the mass media and entertainment conglomerate in June 2018.**
