A few days ago, several fighting game developers announced that they’ll be holding one giant live stream to talk about fighting games. Normally this typically happens during fighting game events, but seeing how COVID-19 has thrown a wrench into all that, compounded by the fact that EVO 2020 Online was canceled, this was off the table. As such the Japan Fighting Game Publisher Roundtable was formed and it will take place on July 31st, 2020.
Here’s a full list of which developers will be attending the event:
- Arcsys: Daisuke Ishiwatari, Kazutoshi Sekine (Arcsys General Battle Director)
- Arika: Ryo Nishitani (Fighting EX Layer Producer)
- SNK: Yasuyuki Oda (Producer), Nobuyuki Kuroki (Director)
- Capcom: Shuhei Matsumoto (Street Fighter 5 Producer), Takayuki Nakayama (Street 5 Director)
- Koei Tecmo: Yohei Shimbori (Dead or Alive 6 Producer)
- Bandai Namco: Katsuhiro Harada, Hiromoto Okubo (SoulCalibur 6 Producer)
As you can see, most of the bigger studios will be in attendance, as well as Akira, who’s last fighting game was Fighting EX Layer.
What do expect
With Capcom set to drop a new update and new characters for Street Fighter V, we’re sure we’ll hear more about that during the event. While Arc Systems ha already mentioned that they’ll be revealing new information on Guilty Gear Strive, as well as a new character. Seeing how SNK is also going to be present, this could be where they officially announce King of Fighters XV. This would be the 15th installment of their popular fighting game, and one that has been rumored to be in development for some time now.

Where to watch this event.
So far, there are several ways to check out this stream. The Capcom Fighters, Tekken, and Dead or Alive YouTube channels, Bandai Namco will stream the event on its Twitch channel. Both streams will start at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET.

I have to say that I didn’t expect some of the biggest names in the fighting game scene to jump onto an online event together, so this is something to look forward to. Especially seeing how the fighting game scene has been subject to a number of controversies, such as sexual harassment, not to mention COVID-19 forcing nearly every event to be canceled. I just wished more companies were on board for this, but this is a great gesture and hopefully, this won’t be the last event like this
