Halo Infinite Demo Was Running on PC

By Conner BJuly 24, 2020

Gameplay is “representative of the experience that players will have on Xbox Series X.”

Yesterday’s presentation by Microsoft was a bit of a mixed affair, one one hand a lot of the indie titles that were showed off were interesting and look like fun but let’s be honest with each other, most people tuned in to see the heavily teased Halo Infinite gameplay and well…it was there. Opinions of the gameplay are as divisive as Halo 5 Guardians so right now it’s hard to gauge what side of the fence the consensus is but regardless of your personal opinions of the demo we have now seen Halo Infinite running on the Series X.

Except we haven’t.

It was confirmed in a post-show Q and A by a 343i developer that the gameplay was running on a PC utilising an Xbox controller. It’s not uncommon for an upcoming game to demo on PC but not once during the demo was it pointed out which rings a little dishonest to me especially when it was during the part of the show dedicated to showing off Xbox Series X games. The Q and A also goes into detail about when the demo takes place which is about halfway through the story.

The statement was later backed up by the marketing lead Michael Wolf on the official Xbox website with the following statement. “Today we showed the first look at the “Halo Infinite” campaign running in real-time and representative of the power and performance of Xbox Series X.”

It was explained that “The game was captured from a PC that is representative of the experience that players will have on Xbox Series X” by the 343i dev. It would be more understandable if the demo we saw was an earlier build and the game wasn’t expected to launch this year but at the time of writing Halo Infinite is slated for a 2020 release window and there isn’t a lot of 2020 left. The release date of “Holiday 2020” is quite vague but on average that means around November time so if 343i doesn’t have something that is presentable on the Series X at this point, which is also slated for a 2020 holiday release, then Halo Infinite might be having some trouble behind the scenes.

Halo Infinite will release this Holiday 2020 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows 10 PC.

The resident Brit of Outerhaven, however, don't expect refinement from me as I swear like a sailor and I will die on the hill I chose to fight on.
