Resident Evil VIII to skip PS4 and Xbox One [UPDATED]

By Christopher BowenJune 18, 2020

Update: Originally we reported on the rumor that Capcom may skip the development of Resident Evil Village/8 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Now it looks like this may be the case, as the official website is only showing logos for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC (Steam). We’ve screenshotted this so you can see for yourself.

While Capcom didn’t mention this during the PlayStation 5 reveal Livestream, I suppose that makes sense. If they’re wanting to push the graphical fidelity of the game, while not holding back the next-generation consoles, then this is the best case situation. Yes, it will serve to frustrate fans of the series who either can’t or won’t be upgrading to the new consoles, but that’s business.

As the image suggests, we’ll get another update on the status of Resident Evil Village this August 2020.

Original story below:

Resident Evil: Village will be the next important installment in the legendary horror-survival franchise, and it seems you will only be able to experience it on next-generation consoles.

Thanks to the RE Engine, Capcom has been able to push out some of the most gruesome yet visually stunning titles of this generation. Resident Evil: Biohazard, Devil May Cry 5, and Resident Evil 3 are just a few notable titles to name.

Now the company is ready to continue that trend for the upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, starting with Resident Evil: Village. And according to horror insider Dusk Golem this is the sole reason why we won’t be seeing the title on current generation consoles.

It’s unfortunate that players and fans that choose to hold out on the next generation jump won’t be able to experience the next great installment in the Resident Evil franchise. However, I think everyone would prefer Capcom to follow this route and create the most polished game possible.

Resident Evil: Village is set to release in 2021. More information to come soon.
