Ferrel and McAdams Star as Icelandic Pop Duo in Trailer for ‘Eurovision Song Contest’

By Andrew AgressJune 11, 2020

Netflix recently released a new trailer for its upcoming film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. Arriving on the streaming service in just a couple weeks, the film stars Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams as two Icelandic singers who share the dream of winning Eurovision. IndieWire reports that David Dobkin directs, who previously directed both Ferrell and McAdams in Wedding Crashers. In this film, Lars (Ferrell) and Sigrit (McAdams) find out that basically through process of elimination, they’ve been selected to represent Iceland at Eurovision. The trailer is fairly long and shares a lot of the film, so be warned if you’re already sold. But if you want to check out a few solid jokes and bits to see if it’s for you, here it is:

The cast also boasts Demi Lovato, Dan Stevens, and Pierce Brosnan in a humorous role as Lars’s strict Icelandic dad. It will be interesting to see how the American film parodies Eurovision, the world’s biggest song contest. This year, the actual contest has been cancelled due to COVID-19, so interesting this spoof will be the only Eurovision Song Contest this summer. America and other neighboring countries don’t compete, but the contest has boosted the careers of many famous artists. One of the most famous winners was the group ABBA, which it the movie seems to parody as well.

While the real Eurovision won’t be happening, Netflix viewers can check out Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga on June 26th.
