RUMOR: Possibly No Nintendo Direct In June Due to COVID-19

By William "Shadowz" KokApril 30, 2020
Super Mario Movie,

According to Venture Beats, Nintendo is telling its partners that is is not going to hold its annual Nintendo Direct this coming June.

Due to the COVID-19 situation and the order from Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to work-at-home, this has put Nintendo in a tough position to likely push back its schedule on all projects. Be it games, DLC, or announcements.

Referring back to Nintendo’s prior statement on March 26, it states:

Due to COVID-19, releases dates and other information are subject to change.

If this is confirmed, it would be the first time Nintendo would miss an event in the Summer. Even with E3 already confirmed cancelled, we assume that Nintendo would hold at least a digital presentation. This year would’ve been the 35th anniversary of Mario, so it is possible that Nintendo was to hold something special at that time. Alongside with the usual major title announcements. Now all  it is up in question.

This is after we just had a major absence of a Nintendo Direct. With the last one, a mini direct, happening back on March 26, 2020.

When the next major Nintendo Direct will happen? The current prediction is that it may not happen until the end of Summer.

Nintendo has not commented on the situation but we will update when they do.
