‘Rick and Morty’ Creator’s New Show ‘Solar Opposites’ is Just as Debauched

By Sara Roncero-MenendezApril 15, 2020

To say Justin Roiland’s show Rick and Morty was a success would be a massive understatement. And while that show still has a long way to go and many more fans to delight, Roiland is using his goodwill to work on new projects. The first to come out is Solar Opposites, a new animated sitcom on Hulu:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hHoKWE4Vb4

Solar Opposites follows four aliens who escape their dying homeward and end up in the U.S. While two of the aliens, played by Justin Roiland himself and Sean Giambrone, are not impressed with all the pollution and hubris, while the other two, played by Thomas Middleditch and Mary Mack, are in love with the trashiness of it all. Together they attempt to live out their days on Earth, and protect the Pupa, a living super computer that will one day evolve into its true form, consume them and terraform the Earth.

From the trailer, you can see that all of Roiland’s hallmarks are here. Cosmic nihilism, jokes about bodily functions, violence, sex, and insanity. This will definitely appeal to fans of Rick and Mority, but will also hopefully bring some more new ideas to the table.

Season 1 will also have more guest stars than you can shake a stick at. Here’s who we’ve learned about so far: Alan Tudyk, Alfred Molina, Amanda Leighton, Andrew Matarazzo, Andy Daly, Calum Worthy, Chris Cox, Christina Hendricks, Echo Kellum, Eric Bauza, Gary Anthony Williams, Gideon Adlon, Jacob Vargus, Jason Mantzoukas, Jeannie Elias, Jesse Mendel, Jon Barinholtz, Karan Brar, Kari Wahlgren, Ken Marino, Liam Cunningham, Maurice LaMarche, Miguel Sandoval, Nat Faxon, Natalie Morales, Neil Flynn, Phil LaMarr, Rainn Wilson, Rob Schrab, Ryan Ridley, Sagan McMahan, Thomas Barbusca, Tiffany Haddish, Tom Kenny, Vargus Mason, and Wendi McLendon-Covey.

Solar Opposites is set to premiere on Hulu on May 8, 2020.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
