Remedy’s story driven Control DLC Foundation releases next week

By Keith MitchellMarch 16, 2020

Yesterday, Remedy dropped the trailer for the upcoming DLC for its award-winning game Control, entitled Foundation. The DLC will be available on March 26, 2020, for the PlayStation 4 and PC (Epic Games Store), while Xbox One owners will have to wait until June 25th, 2020. Yes, that’s months later.

The first piece of story-driven DLC will have Jesse Faden, the newly dubbed Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, being tasked by the board to see what exactly is under the Oldest House. For those who’ve yet to play the game, that refers to the location where the entirety of Control takes place. It also looks like we’ll be tracking down Helen Marshall, who may have some insight as to what’s going on.

What can you expect from this? Well, according to Remedy, we can expect to see some very bizarre stuff and that what we first experienced in Control while pales to what’s coming next. This is exactly what I wanted as I enjoyed the heck out of Control, especially with the world they created and all of the SCP-related cues in the game.

You’ll need to have already finished the game, but you’ve already done that. Right? Remedy also announced that a new weapon upgrade, new Shield Rush ability, and several others will be added as part of the DLC and free content.

Control DLC Roadmap

What I don’t enjoy is that somehow, someone thought it would be a good idea to release this for the PS4 and PC at the same time. Yet, Xbox One owners will have to wait three months. The original game was released at the same time for all platforms, yet the first significant DLC is being gated and I have to say I’m not a fan of that. Now before you say, “But Remedy announed this back in September 2019”, they release didn’t. Instead, they choose to be cryptic about it and stated that the NEXT DLC, AWE, would release on all platforms at the same time. Sure, it does confirm that they were going to gate the Foundation content, but c’mon. That’s just wrong.

In any event, I hope that this doesn’t cause Xbox One owners to skip the DLC. While I haven’t played it yet, I can already tell it’s going to be just as enjoyable as the original game was. Which was amazing and needs to be played by anyone who enjoys a good action game, filled with some off the wall mystery.

Looking forward to this, even if gating the content has me a bit frustrated.
