Martin McDonagh Reuniting ‘In Bruges’ Duo for Upcoming Film

By Andrew AgressFebruary 19, 2020

Martin McDonagh has a new film in the works, which will reunite Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, the stars of his 2008 dark comedy In Bruges. That film focuses on two hitmen who hide out in the picturesque town of Bruges after a job gone wrong. McDonagh’s feature-length film debut received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Personally, it’s one of my favorite films of the last decade. Most recently, McDonagh directed Three Billboard Outside Ebbing, Missouri in 2017 and debuted the play A Very Very Very Dark Matter in 2018. Now, McDonagh returns to the screen for his next upcoming venture.

According to Deadline, the upcoming film will focus on two lifelong friends living on a remote Irish isle, who after certain developments have a falling out that forever changes their dynamic. Farrell and Gleeson will star as the two friends. The Searchlight Pictures film will begin shooting this coming summer.

Reportedly, the title of the film will be The Banshees of Inisheer. Interestingly, this is the title of one of McDonagh’s unproduced plays. McDonagh, who got his start in theater, wrote two trilogies of plays set in Ireland, where he spent much of his childhood. The second trilogy consists of The Cripple of Inishmaan, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, and The Banshees of Inisheer. The first two have received numerous productions, but the third has never seen the light of day. That may change, if the play is in fact the basis for the upcoming film.

A big fan of Final Fantasy VII, Uncharted, and Metal Gear Solid, Andrew loves great stories and any and all things horror flavored. He also works in the world of interactive theater, its own kind of gaming. Andrew gets his powers from listening to indie folk music and drinking aloe water.
