Diablo, Overwatch Possibly Heading to Netflix

By Josh PiedraFebruary 17, 2020

Nick van Dyk, President of Film and Television at Activision Blizzard, made a statement on his LinkedIn account that a television anime adaptation of Blizzard’s Diablo franchise as well as an animated adaptation of Blizzard’s Overwatch franchise could be heading to Netflix.

Nick van Dyk said:

Executive producer of Diablo, a TV adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s IP, rendered in anime style. The show is currently in pre-production for distribution worldwide through Netflix.

Nick van Dyk said:

With my creative partner, developed and sold an animated series based Blizzard’s Overwatch franchise.

When it comes to Diablo, this isn’t a surprise to many as it has already made its rounds around the internet and has been doing so since 2018. The rumors began around the same time that the Castlevania anime series showed promise and had proven to be successful. Overwatch, on the other hand, hadn’t been treated to such rumors but it is the franchise that would make the most sense since Blizzard has been finding more and more ways to present the lore to the player base. What better way to do that than to do so in an animated series?

As of right now, there are no details on the story or release dates but it is interesting to see Blizzard branch out into other forms of media to present their franchises. Let’s hope it does better than the 3D CG Warcraft film.
