It’s almost time to head back but in VR!

Valve has finally announced when we’ll be able to get our hands on the next Half-Life title, which also happens to be a VR game. Half-Life: Alyx now has a release date of March 23, 2020.

The news of the release date was posted earlier today by Valve via a tweet. With no fluff or hype, just “Half-Life: Alyx, available March 23, 2020. I guess they already know that everyone who has a VR headset has been waiting for this. I know I sure have been.

Half-Life: Alyx was announced back in November 2019, and will be a completely playable game. Not a tech demo as many had assumed, or a gimmick. No, this will be a full game based in the Half-Life universe where players will take on the role of Alyx Lance. This game will take place during the events after Half-Life 1 and before Half-Life 2, will while Gordan Freeman is still taking his nap. That said, there was plenty that happened during that period time and we’ll get to see and play through it all very soon.

Speaking of VR, Valve has been pimping out its own VR headset since they and HTC parted ways. It’s a bit pricey but the Valve Index is easily the top of the line VR experience you can have if you’re willing to put up $1000 to acquire one. If not, not to worry as Half-Life: Alyx will also be playable with the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Rift s, Oculus Ques (with Quest Link) and the Windows Mixed Reality headsets. Of course, if you do own the Valve Index, then you’ll score a free copy of the game and some other goodies.

The game is available for pre-order on Steam now with a 10% percent discount leading up to launch. Half-Life: Alyx March just might be the AAA game that gets the people sitting on the VR fence, to finally make the jump.
