Cyberpunk 2077 release delayed to September 2020

Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red has just announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed until September 2020. With the last few days filled with other game delays, there was a 50/50 chance this also was going to happen.

*Insert sad emoji*

“We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done. Night City is massive – full of stories, content and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing, and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect.”

Cyberpunk 2077 delayed

Either way, as much as this delay hurts as I really wanted to play the game. I’m a firm believer in delaying a game for the greater good. Sure the wait has gotten even longer, but the finished product will be worth it.

On the positive side of things, now you have more time to play Final Fantasy VII Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake. You know, until either one of those also gets delayed.

Originally scheduled for an April 2020 release, the game will now be released in September 2020. Which is pretty close to the release of both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Which begs to ask if this delay isn’t just for more polish and optimization, but also to get the game ready for the next-generation consoles.

Speaking of next-generation consoles, CD Projekt Red has announced they’ll support Xbox’s Smart Delivery. Smart Delivery is a feature that will provide owners of the Xbox One version of the game a free upgrade to the Xbox Series X version, should they upgrade to an Xbox Series X. Sounds like a win for the Xbox camp.

It’s not all bad news, so cheer up buds! Just think, when it finally gets released we’ll be in for an amazing experience. Plus it should be getting colder (at least in my area) and more reason to stay in the house and play.
