WWE 2K20 Y2K-like issue has been patched

By Keith MitchellJanuary 1, 2020
WWE 2K20 Bugs

Update: 2K Games has patched the issue.

As reported yesterday, WWE 2K20 had encountered an issue that wouldn’t let anyone play the game modes, thanks to a glitch. Surprisingly, this was quickly patched.

This issue has been resolved. Please make sure to restart your #WWE2K20 game to automatically download the fix. If you continue experiencing issues, please open a support ticket here: https://t.co/E9ETwypbuw. Thank you again for your patience!

Original story below

When it comes to wrestling video games, WWE 2K20 wasn’t very high on our list for several reasons. Now, we can add one more that came to light during the new year. It would seem that if you attempt to play WWE 2K20 in the year 2020 results with the game will crash on you.  This affects both the console and PC versions of the game and all modes as of now.

This is very reminiscent of the issue that was widely spread when we progressed from the year 1999 to the year 2000 – the Y2K bug. Which isn’t actually correct, as it’s not a bug but more of a programming limitation at the time. But we’re 20 years past this, so why is this happening to WWE 2K20? That, we don’t have an answer to.

The footage below was recorded by YouTuber, newLEGACYinc. Here you can see exactly what’s going with this bug.

It would seem that 2K Games is aware of this bug and has put out a disclaimer that they are working on a fix.

Hey Superstars! We are aware of the issues related to #WWE2K20 crashing and are currently investigating. We are working towards a solution and will update you all when we have more information.

For now, the only workaround is to change the date on your PS4 or PC back to 2019. This was also confirmed by several members of the WWEGames subreddit. Sadly, this isn’t possible on the Xbox One, you’ll have to wait for a patch. There’s no word on when we’ll see an update on this from 2K Games. But judging from their track history, I wouldn’t expect the fix anytime soon.

As for WWE 2K20, perhaps the company needs to just scrap the next game and go back to the drawing board. While we’re aware that having Yukes abandon ship during the development of the game put 2K Games in a bad situation. Yet releasing the game in such a broken state isn’t doing any wonders for them either.

WWE 2K20 is currently available for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. However, after issue after issue, we simply can’t recommend anyone picking up this game.
