New Pokemon Store Has “Captured” Mewtwo On Display

By Todd BlackNovember 24, 2019
Mewtwo

Pokemon is arguably more popular than it has ever been, due in large part to the anime, as well as the recent game release of Pokemon Sword and Shield (which sold 6 million in its first week). But the Pokemon Company and Nintendo know they have to keep this momentum up, so they opened up a brand knew Pokemon Center (basically an epic Pokemon store) in the Shibuya District of Tokyo. But imagine fans surprise when they saw Mewtwo there…

Now I’m sure some of you are like, “Well Mewtwo is one of the most popular Pokemon! Of course he would be there!” And yeah, if it was a plushy, or a action figure, or the Amiibo of him, then yeah. But right in the center of the store is a massive chamber that contains the “worlds’ most powerful Pokemon”, a direct reference to Pokemon The First Movie.

As you can see, this Mewtwo isn’t just there, he’s life-size! And the chamber actually has him floating up and down just as if he was really in stasis/hibernation like in the first movie.

Some fans are a bit creeped out by this, but personally, I just see this as a great reference to a great movie. You know…as long as he doesn’t wake up…
