Google Stadia’s launch line-up is completely lackluster

Google Stadia review

Update (11/18/2019): Google has announced that they’ve added 10 more games for Stadia’s launch. This brings the total of available launch titles to 22.

  • Attack on Titan: Final Battle 2
  • Farming Simulator 2019
  • Final Fantasy XV
  • Football Manager 2020
  • Grid 2019
  • Metro Exodus
  • NBA 2K20
  • Rage 2
  • Trials Rising
  • Wolfenstein: Youngblood

Original story below

I hate to be that person that says I told you so, but damn if it isn’t hard. Today, Google announced its launch line-up for the Google Stadia and to the surprise of no one, it’s completely lackluster. Keep in mind that the service releases next Tuesday, November 19th, 2019.

12 games will be available during the launch, of which only one title is exclusive to the platform. That being Tequila Softworks ‘GYLT’. The other 11 are games that have been available on either the PS4, Xbox One, and PC or are launching the same day (Kine) as the Stadia version. As someone who jumped on the chance to give Google Stadia a chance, none of these games are appealing. Most of them I already own, and I’m sure you do as well.

  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • Destiny 2
  • GYLT
  • Just Dance 2020
  • Kine
  • Mortal Kombat 11
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • Samurai Shodown
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
  • Thumper
  • Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

Sadly, the one title that many of us were looking forward to, DOOM Eternal, was delayed until 2020. A title that may have convinced many to give the cloud gaming service a try. That delay definitely hurt the Stadia’s chances. Another issue I have is how the gaming library is handled. When you purchase a game on Stadia, it’s only for Stadia. For example, like how when you purchase a game on Sony’s PS Now, you still can play it on the PlayStation.

It’s important to point out that for those looking to give Destiny 2 a try, it does support cross-save. So you’ll be able to transfer your existing guardian to the service or away from it. I also am really interested in seeing how Stadia handles Red Dead Redemption 2 at 4K.

When the service releases next Tuesday, for many of us this will seem like a glorified beta and truthfully this is what it is. Only those who paid for the Founders or Premiere editions will have access to the service. For those who would rather play for free, Stadia won’t be available until later in 2020.

That said, several of us here have pre-ordered Stadia and will be putting it through its paces. That is, whenever we get our Founders editions, which may or may not be delivered prior (or after) the launch day.

We’d love to know what you think about Stadia, and it’s chances in the comments below.
