PS5 Dev Kits in the Hands of Developers

The next generation of consoles is imminent, with the PS5 releasing in 2020 sometime between October and December in the holiday season. Sony has made some interesting moves towards the end of this gen by drip-feeding information to various news outlets in an effort to avoid leaks and misinformation.

According to Push Square, the lead game designer of Dying Light 2 stated that their studio Techland has been given a PS5 dev kit. This also lines up with Dying Light 2 being slated for release on PS4 and PS5.

A dev kit is just what the name implies-specialized hardware given to game developers so that they can properly make games for a specific platform. This is done so in order to create games prior to a console’s launch and is especially helpful for third-party developers.

We also know a lot of details about the PlayStation 5, including PS4 backward compatibility, PSVR support, 3D audio, SSD storage, 8K TV support and so much more. The bottom line is that you can expect faster loading times with a solid-state drive and higher visual fidelity thanks to technological techniques like ray tracing. Sony has also stated that they will be improving PlayStation Now and remote play as well as enabling PS5 players to play with PS4 players.

Lastly, we also know that the updated Dualshock 5 controller will replace rumble with “haptic feedback” and that the L2/R2 buttons will include “adaptive triggers”. This is all being done to improve player immersion.

Expect to see the PlayStation 5 when it releases the next Holiday season in 2020. This also happens to be around the same time the Xbox next-gen console “Project Scarrlet” will be released.
