Weathering With You

It was announced by Fathom Events that Makoto Shinkai’s latest film, Weathering With You (Tenki no Ko), will be coming to U.S. Theaters! The film will screen as a Special Fan Preview on January 15 and 16. These screenings will contain special bonus content that will not be shown in the subsequent screenings under the GKIDS banner which will open on January 17.

Tickets for the Fathom Events version of the film go on sale November 15. As of now, Fathom Events has not stated what extra content will be offered at their screenings.

MyAnimeList.net describes Weathering With You as follows:

The summer of his high school freshman year, Hodaka runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hodaka meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strong-willed girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky…

So far, the film has garnered an 8.62 mean score (out of 10) on MyAnimeList.net. The film has made about $126 million in Japan, which has earned it the title of being the 7th highest-grossing domestic film of all-time in Japan and the highest-grossing film in Japan this year.
