Looks Like a Sony First-Party Title is Getting Delayed

By Diego PerezOctober 23, 2019
Ghost of Tsushima

While nothing is confirmed just yet, all signs point to one of Sony’s upcoming PlayStation exclusive first-party titles getting delayed. Notable industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, also known as ZhugeEX, tweeted this morning that there would be some “unexpected news about a Sony first-party title soon.” Things just got worse from there.

PlayStation fans quickly began speculating. Is The Last of Us Part II‘s development going okay? This can’t possibly affect Death Stranding, right? Maybe it’s about that Ghost of Tsushima game? As per usual, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier chimed in with some hints as to what he knows. When game cancellations were brought up, Schreier responded with “I don’t cancel games, just delay them.” He then further elaborated in a ResetEra thread, stating “it’s a bit surprising but ultimately not a big deal. People will be disappointed for a few minutes and then get over it.”

If you ask us, the mystery game in question is most likely Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, which we haven’t heard a whole lot about since its reveal. The Last of Us Part II and Death Stranding are already too close to release for a delay, and Media Molecule’s Dreams is doing well in early access, making Ghost of Tsushima the odd one out. Many have been speculating that the game might end up becoming a PlayStation 5 game rather than a PlayStation 4 game, or at least a PlayStation 5 launch window cross-gen title, which would make sense considering how close we are to next-generation hardware and the game not having a release timeframe yet.

At least the news is reportedly coming soon, so we won’t have to wait too long to see what’s going on with one of Sony’s games. We’ll update this story with more information as it becomes available.
