Respawn is Making a Medal of Honor Game for VR

By Diego PerezSeptember 25, 2019
Medal of Honor

Respawn Entertainment, the incredibly talented developer behind Titanfall and Apex Legends, has partnered with Oculus to create a brand-new Medal of Honor game exclusively for Oculus Rift.

The new game, called Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, will feature a narrative-driven single-player campaign with over 50 levels as well as a fully-featured multiplayer suite. Oculus has been in dire need of AAA level exclusives for its Rift headsets, so they went and recruited various developers like Respawn and Insomniac to create games for their platform. Respawn and Oculus announced they’d be making a AAA VR game for Rift two years ago, and Above and Beyond is the result of that deal.

Some people who have previously worked on the Medal of Honor franchise have joined Respawn to help with Above and Beyond. Peter Hirschmann, writer and producer of the original 1999 Medal of Honor, is leading the development team for this new entry, and the team is attempting to recapture some of the educational aspects that the series focused on in its earlier entries. Respawn has conducted interviews with several WWII veterans and created 360-degree videos of historic locations that you’ll be able to experience in VR. They’ve even gone as far as to scan some archival footage from the Library of Congress into 4K for the first time ever, which is neat.

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond will be released for Oculus Rift sometime next year. While exclusive to Rift, you’ll be able to play it on an Oculus Quest if you have a powerful enough PC thanks to Oculus Link.

When he's not playing video games, Diego's talking about video games, and he does both a lot.
