It’s finally happening! The Xbox One controller is now compatible for PC’s

While it’s been a long time in coming I’m happy report that the Microsoft Xbox One controller is now compatible with PC’s. Gamers had wondered ever since the controller was released if and when they would be able to use it on their PC’s and unlike the Sony Dualshock 4 that came with limited PC connectivity when it was launched, the Xbox One controller simply did not allow any other connectivity. I’m glad to see that this is finally over as I quite enjoy the feel of this controller, more so than the Xbox 360 and the Dualshock 4 controller.

However there is a gotcha! The controller only supports Wi-Fi Direct so if you’re wanting to use it without a wire then you’re out of luck as the controller uses Wi-Fi Direct and not Bluetooth.  The drivers also are not supported under Windows XP, which is to be expected as Windows XP is now considered EOL (End of Line) and is no longer supported by Microsoft.

Also keep in mind when installing the drivers if you get a failure or a premature ending, make sure you are installing the correct version for your Operating System; If you’re running Windows 64-bit then install the X64 drivers, 32-bit users install the x86 drivers.

The drivers can be downloaded at the links below.

We know our fans have wanted PC compatibility, and we know they wanted to be able to use the Xbox One controller with the same games and applications they have been playing with using the Xbox 360 controller. We can’t wait for them to play their favorite PC games with what we consider the best controller ever made and we’re excited for fans to experience the improved D-pad, redesigned battery compartment, new comfortable design and offset analog sticks. The new PC drivers will enable the Xbox One controller to be used with any game that featured gamepad support for the Xbox 360 controller. Simply download the drivers, connect your Xbox One controller to your computer through a micro USB cable and you’ll be gaming in no time.

Finally I can play my games with the Xbox One controller and now I have excuse to buy another controller. Stink that I didn’t wait long enough and had sold off my Limited Edition Titanfall Xbox One controller as it didn’t work with the PC at the time.
