Fire Emblem Three Houses Has Biggest US Launch In Franchise History

By Todd BlackAugust 16, 2019
Fire Emblem Three Houses

There are a lot of big games for Nintendo in 2019, some have already released, some are coming soon, but you could argue that few had as much pressure on them as Fire Emblem Three Houses. The game was supposed to come out last year, and then early this year, but kept getting delayed. More than that, this was the first console game since the Wii via Radiant Dawn, which was before the big Fire Emblem boom that happened because of Awakening on the DS. But now, all fears of it failing have vanished via the NPD reports.

The July numbers in the United States have released, and on the backs of Super Mario Maker 2 and Three Houses, the Switch is the No.1 console in the country once again. But more than that, Fire Emblem Three Houses was the No.2 game of the month. Only behind Madden 2020, which often sells many millions thanks to Football fans all over.

But despite being in second place, it did get a major honor via being the biggest launch for a Fire Emblem game in US history. So much so that it tripled the opening sales for the 3DS title Shadows of Valentia. And when added with the worldwide numbers, Three Houses is already almost the best-selling Fire Emblem game in history, and it hasn’t even been out a month.

While there are no specific numbers at present, Fire Emblem Awakening sold a little over 2 million lifetime-wise. So it’s very likely that the sales numbers for the game are very close to that right now.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our review of Fire Emblem Three Houses! Where we praised it for its branching story, great characters, new twists, and more!
