Anthem lead producer Ben Irving is departing from Bioware

Yikes!

Things simply aren’t going well for Anthem, are they?

EA’s and Bioware’s Anthem already had a handful of issues. The lost of its lead designer back in 2017, as well as problems with the gameplay and performance not living up to expectations. To the delay of promised features and that’s just the tip of the iceberg Well, now they’re losing the lead producer of the game as well. In a tweet from Ben Irving, he announced he was leaving Bioware after 8 years and going to work at an unnamed company.

(1/3) After 8 amazing years at BioWare I have made the decision to move on and have accepted an exciting opportunity at another gaming company. Since the first time I played Baldurs Gate many many years ago, BioWare was the dream place I always wanted to work.

(3/3) I have really enjoyed interacting with the Anthem community – Streams, Twitter and Reddit. Through the good times and the tough times. You all are in great hands with @Darokaz and @UNTDrew (and have been for some time now). I wish nothing but the best for all of you. Ben.

While he’s departing, he does state that he has high hopes for Anthem. Something that many on the outside of EA and Bioware simply don’t agree with. While the game has its supporters and it was one of the highest-selling games for EA. The game has lost several players, and the most recent update, Cataclysm, had been delayed for months finally was released. Except it also didn’t leave up to expectations.

Ben’s departure is yet another massive blow to EA’s and Bioware’s attempt to ensure everyone that Anthem will still be supported. As much as I’d love to believe that, as I was hoping they could turn it around as I enjoyed the world and the fly. I’m starting to wonder if Ben isn’t the only person who’s trying to leave what could be seen as sinking ship.

Anthem is currently available for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
