ELEAGUE And CBS To Show Off Nintendo World Championships

By Todd BlackAugust 15, 2019

Truly this is an exciting time for video gamers of the Nintendo brand. The Switch is selling great, many 1st and 3rd party titles have come out this year with many more to come, there are exciting things on the horizon, and, EVO 2019 marked a massive uptick in viewers via the Super Smash Bros Ultimate tournament. Now, ELEAGUE is teaming up with Nintendo to give you a look at the Nintendo World Championships that happened this past June during E3 weekend. What’s more, this special series will air on CBS!

ELEAGUE and Nintendo are partnering to showcase high-level players and exciting competitive moments through a three-episode ELEAGUE television series focused on three tournaments held in Los Angeles in June 2019. ELEAGUE Presents The Nintendo 2019 World Championships – set to premiere Sunday, Aug. 25, at 1 p.m. ET on CBS – will take fans backstage and behind the controller with professional players as they compete across three Nintendo Switch video games; Super Mario Maker 2, Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The series will feature teams from around the world including Japan, United States, Europe and Australia/New Zealand.  Additional episodes will be featured Saturday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 14, at 1:30 p.m. on CBS.

This continues a long growing movement of putting esports events like this on TV. Overwatch League has been on both Twitch and Disney XD, the recent Fortnite World Cup was on ESPN and now, we have Nintendo on CBS. Who knows what could be next?
